MIDLAND COUNTIES – CHAIRMAN’S STATEMENT ABOUT THE MIDLAND COUNTIES ATHLETICS ASSOCIATION AND INDOOR TRACK AND FIELD ATHLETICS

Thank you to those who took the trouble to comment on my statement regarding the Midland Counties AA and Indoor Track and Field Athletics.
I will endeavour to answer the issues raised -;
i) We are told that the High-Performance Centre, Birmingham, is closed to the MCAA for competition this winter. We are not aware at this time what will happen in the future.
ii) Arena Birmingham – we have made enquiries regarding its availability for 19th February – that still needs to be confirmed or otherwise. We know that with the hire of the venue, ticketing arrangements, stewarding, and other costs, it will be in the region of £20,000 (yes, twenty thousand pounds) outlay to organise. However, if we have the date, we will attempt to see how we can reduce that figure in any way to provide much needed indoor competition.
iii) Only one person commented that someone ‘needs to stand up’ as Track and Field Secretary (this does not necessarily have to be one individual) but someone to assist and guide the organising and to run the meetings.
Without that person or group, next summers’ Outdoor Track and Field Championships will be in jeopardy.

I must emphasise that we, the Midland Counties Athletic Association Management, want to and will do everything we can to ensure that competition and Championships are provided for the athletes within our competition area, but that cannot happen without help from committed volunteers.
