MIDLAND COUNTIES CROSS-COUNTRY ASSOCIATION CRITERIA FOR SELECTION FOR THE 2022 HOME INTERNATIONAL CROSS-COUNTRY
As usual the Midland Counties, along with the North of England, have been invited to send an Area Team to compete in the Home International Cross-Country. This event will take place on Saturday 22nd January 2022 at Dun Donald in County Antrim (the event was held there in 2019) as part of the Celtic Cross Country International. In the past the Celtic Cross Country International has used World Athletics guidelines for the qualifying ages. The relevant date for this coming event, therefore, would be 31st December 2022. Thus, under-20s (Junior) selection would be open to athletes born on or after 1st January 2003.
As yet, details of travel and accommodation remain to be confirmed but those wishing to be considered for selection should be prepared to travel out on Friday 21st January 2022 and to return on Sunday 23rd January 2022. The Midland Counties Athletics Association will conduct a full review of Covid requirements for travel to Northern Ireland which they will circulate to athletes who express an interest in selection for the event.
Area teams will consist of four to run and three to score in the four races: Senior Men, Senior Women, Junior Men, Junior Women.
If you are interested in competing, please notify:
Men’s Team Manager – Matt Long at MattLongCoach@gmail.com
Women’s Team Manager – Claire Martin at email@example.com
Friends and family are asked not to lobby for an athlete’s selection on Facebook but to encourage interested athletes to contact their potential team manager themselves.
Performances in the Midland 7 and 5 in Nottingham on Saturday 20th November 2021 and at the UK Cross Challenge at Sefton Park on Saturday 27th November 2021 will be given specific attention at the selection meeting on Monday 29th November 2021.
The trip will be subsidised by the English Cross-Country Association through the Midland Counties but once travel and accommodation costs are known athletes may be asked to contribute towards the cost.
